Features

We use full-dimensional 2x4 frames that actually measure 2x4 inches, so these boxes can handle whatever gardening chaos you throw at them.

Built with no harmful chemicals, our garden boxes keep your soil pure and your plants thriving naturally. Paired with mitered corners for a polished, professional appearance, you get both safety and style.
29 gauge galvanized steel panels are 50% thicker than what you get at the big box stores.  Galvanized and stainless steel fasteners ensure years of worry-free durability.

Eight-foot and longer lengths incorporate cross braces to lock the sides together so your soil won't bulge the sides.  On 30-inch heights, the top brace is low enough to be hidden from view under the soil.  Open bottoms ensure proper drainage, so you don't have to worry about drowning your plants during a storm.

Boxes six feet and longer feature extra vertical bracing that supports the panels while giving the garden boxes a crisp, intentional look.

Why Tamarack?

Tamarack is a strong and naturally rot resistant wood. It's like cedar denser and stronger, and doesn't require chemical preservative treatment in
outdoor applications.  It's often used for boardwalks on hiking and ATV
trails.

Our boxes are built with Tamarack sustainably harvested and milled right here in northern Minnesota. It's green, which means it is freshly cut and is not dried. Some warping or twisting of the wood as it dries is normal.

If you want to read more on Tamarack, check out this USDA page.

Order process

Typically all boxes are built to order, so depending on how long the backlog is, turn around time may vary. Typically the process looks like this:

  1. Order placed with a 50% deposit (you have the option to pay in full for a small discount).
  2. Box(s) built in first-come-first-served order. If you need something by a specific date, please contact us prior to ordering.
  3. Customer is contacted when boxes are ready to schedule delivery or pickup.
  4. Final payment is made at pickup/delivery.

Depending on how busy we are, boxes can be ready in a day or a couple weeks. Building usually starts in early April and runs until early June.

Feel free to call or text 218-451-2235 for current lead times.

Pickup and Delivery

If you select pickup at checkout, we'll call you when your boxes are ready. You can pick them up at 627 Laurel St. in Cloquet, MN. Please park on the street when you arrive so you don't block the neighbors who share the driveway. Thanks in advance!

If you want delivery, select the shipping option at checkout and the local delivery will automatically be selected. The cost is calculated manually after checkout and an updated receipt will be sent to you.

To find out what delivery would cost:

  1. Determine the number of miles for the fastest route from your address to TRM Services (627 Laurel St. Cloquet, MN 55720)
  2. Subtract 25 miles
  3. Multiply the remaining miles by $2.50.

For example, a 30 mile delivery would cost $75.

There is a $25 minimum delivery charge.

A single delivery charge is applied per order, as long as they all fit on our 8'x16' trailer.

Note about dimensions

The listed dimensions are the outside dimensions of the box, however the top trim on is 1" larger for width and length than the nominal box size.

For example: a 4'x8' box is actually 49" by 97" at the top. This can be important if you want to stuff a box in the back of your car!

Overall height is measured to the top of the trim at 30" or 16".

Staining and Preserving

We often get asked if we recommend staining our boxes.  The answer is: it's up to you.

Tamarack is naturally rot resistant so staining is not required.  It's more of a personal aesthetic preference. We do not offer staining at this time.  If you decide to stain your box, we recommend letting the wood dry a couple months before staining because the wood is green as has a high moisture content when we assemble the boxes.  Staining or sealing can help preserve the color of the wood.

When the wood is fresh it is a light color and as it oxidizes it will turn more of a golden color, and then eventually grey.  Here's a picture from a customer that shows a fairly new box next to a box that was built the previous year.
